This data represents all debris collected through LMC sponsored coastal cleanup events in Palm Beach County from January 1 – June 20, 2017. Last Thursday, our sea turtle hospital received a call from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) about a post-hatchling turtle that was found washed up on the beach, covered in oil. The turtle, a small green, was found near the Lake Worth Fishing Pier by our colleagues at DB Ecological Services, while they were conducting their morning sea turtle nesting survey. On November 18 and 19, the center’s Outreach Coordinator, Demi Fox, attended the Second International Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle Symposium in Brownsville, Texas.  The symposium, convened for the first time since 1985, was scheduled one year earlier than planned due to growing concern for the species.  Kemp’s ridley sea turtles were saved from near extinction largely due to a bi-national agreement between Mexico and the United States made in 1984.  Their population… Read More
